Watching TV and gaming are major parts of our home entertainment system, but the transition between these two systems is not a seamless one. Users usually have to switch back and forth using two different devices.
Problem.
Creating a 2 in 1 design that has a playful and minimal aesthetic. Explore numerous forms through sketches and rapid prototyping to ensure the design doesn’t compromise comfort in both modes.
Design Process.
The design is playful and approachable with the rounded pill-shape design language with a bright pink accent color. The ring lights on both sides provide an indication of direction when used as a TV remote, and as a feedback light in controller mode.
Final Design.
The physical model is 3D printed and painted with matching colors. The model also showcases the transform feature and allows people to play around in both modes.
Physical Model.
The packaging follows the pill-shape design and the top is embossed with the outline of the controller. The unboxing experience goes from top to bottom, revealing the product, user manual, and accessories.
